Our History
Every story has a beginning. This is ours…
Our church community was born out of the tent meetings held in Kezar Falls in 1935 by founding pastors Dagnar Lindberg and Virginia Avery.
In November 1935, Dagnar Lindberg and Virginia Avery came to Kezar Falls, Maine, guided by the Lord. By 1937, the Kezar Falls Pentecostal Church was built and dedicated in Porter, Maine. In the 1940’s, the church joined the Assemblies of God. As the congregation grew, a new church building was constructed in Parsonsfield in 1954. Dagmar and Virginia were dedicated to their mission, conducting numerous tent meetings in surrounding communities. For nearly twenty years, the church also broadcast a radio show on WBNC in Conway, New Hampshire. In 1975, after forty years of ministry, Dagmar and Virginia retired.
That same fall, Rev. Clarence, Ethel Reed, and their family came to pastor at Kezar Falls Assembly of God. The church bought a new parsonage, and the Reed’s purchased the church’s first bus in 1978. Which enabled the church to start transporting many community members to various services. Over the years, church members diligently worked to maintain and enhance the existing church building. In 1988, the Rev. Clarence Reed and his wife, Ethel, retired after serving for thirteen years.
In August 1988, Rev. Herb and Kay Wilcox began their pastoral ministry at Kezar Falls Assembly of God. The Wilcox family led numerous impactful outreach ministries during their time. The bus ministry continued to thrive, and the church made various building improvements, such as a new PA system and better accommodations for youth during Wednesday evening meetings. In 2010, the Wilcox family retired after twenty-two years of dedicated service.
In October 2010, Rev. Philip and Samantha Wood, along with their family, came to pastor at Kezar Falls Assembly of God. Pastor Philip leads our Sunday services, while Samantha and others minister in Children’s Church. We pray that the Wood family will be with us for many years to come.
The mission of Kezar Falls Assembly of God has always been to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and make disciples as we grow in God’s grace. For over seventy-five years, we have gathered here to worship God and serve our surrounding communities. Together, we strive to know Christ and make Him known, and we invite you to join us.
